By Avit Bansal
THE PROMISE is an original book by Avit Bansal created to help readers understand one of the deepest and most misunderstood aspects of Neville Goddard's teachings: The Promise.
While Neville Goddard is widely known today for the Law of Assumption, manifestation, imagination, and living in the end, his teachings also contained a deeper spiritual dimension that he called The Promise.
This book explores what Neville meant by The Promise, how he described it, how it relates to his interpretation of Scripture, and why he considered it fundamentally different from simply manifesting a personal desire.
Written for both newcomers and students of Neville Goddard, THE PROMISE brings these ideas together in a clear and accessible form.

ABOUT THE PROMISE
THE PROMISE is an original work by Avit Bansal dedicated to helping readers understand Neville Goddard's teachings about The Promise in a clear, comprehensive, and connected way.
Neville Goddard spoke about The Promise throughout his later teachings, books, writings, and lectures. He described it as a profound spiritual fulfillment and as the realization of a divine purpose within man.
For many readers, however, Neville's teachings on The Promise can be difficult to understand when encountered across different books, writings, lectures, and individual passages. His discussions draw upon Scripture, mystical experiences, spiritual rebirth, resurrection, being born from above, David, the Fatherhood of God, the descent of the dove, and the realization of man's divine nature.
A Complete and Holistic Study of The Promise
The purpose of THE PROMISE is to bring Neville Goddard's teachings on The Promise together into one comprehensive work.
The book draws together and examines Neville's teachings about The Promise across his books, writings, lectures, and other teachings, allowing the reader to explore the subject as a complete body of teaching rather than encountering isolated explanations in different places.
Instead of searching through Neville's many individual works and lectures to piece together what he taught about The Promise, this book brings the subject together into one dedicated, structured, and holistic exploration.
WHAT IS THE PROMISE ACCORDING TO
NEVILLE GODDARD?
The Promise, in Neville Goddard's teaching, is the fulfillment of a divine purpose: God became man so that man may ultimately become God.
Neville did not present The Promise as simply another method for manifesting personal desires. He taught that behind human existence is a deeper spiritual purpose - the awakening of the divine within the individual and the realization of one's true identity in God.
He connected this fulfillment with a series of profound spiritual experiences that he interpreted through the teachings and symbolism of the Bible, including:
-
Being born from above
-
The descent of the dove
-
The calling of the divine name
-
The opening of the tomb
-
The experience of union with God
-
Spiritual rebirth
-
The realization of one's divine identity
For Neville, this is the deeper meaning behind the biblical story of the Incarnation. God became man so that man may become God, not in the sense of the human personality becoming an all-powerful being, but through the awakening and realization of the divine nature within.
This is why Neville regarded The Promise as something far greater than the fulfillment of ordinary personal desires.
Manifesting a relationship, money, a career, a home, or another desired circumstance belongs to the practical application of consciousness and imagination. The Promise points beyond these temporary manifestations toward the ultimate spiritual fulfillment of the individual.
In this sense, The Promise represents the awakening of the divine within man and the fulfillment of the spiritual destiny Neville believed was inherent in every human being.
WHY I WROTE THIS BOOK?
Neville Goddard's teachings on The Promise are among the most profound and often the most misunderstood parts of his work.
I wrote this book to help readers move beyond simply knowing the words “The Promise” and actually understand what Neville was pointing toward.
To Make Neville's Teachings Easier to Understand
Neville's discussions of The Promise draw upon Biblical Scripture, symbolism, mystical experiences, spiritual rebirth, and the nature of God and man. For a modern reader, these teachings can sometimes feel difficult to follow or understand in their proper context. This book brings these ideas together and explains them in a clear, accessible, and practical way, so that readers can approach Neville's deeper teachings without getting lost in terminology or symbolism.
To Go Beyond Modern Manifestation
Many people discover Neville Goddard through the Law of Assumption, manifestation, visualization, SATS, and living in the end. These are important aspects of Neville's teachings, but they are not the whole of his message. The Promise takes us beyond the question, “What can I manifest?” It points toward the much deeper question:
Who am I, really?
Neville's answer leads toward the realization of the divine nature within man, the idea that God became man so that man may become God. This book explores that deeper dimension of Neville's teachings.
To Understand What Neville Meant by The Promise
The purpose of this book is not simply to tell you that The Promise exists. It is to help you understand what Neville was actually pointing toward. Throughout the book, we explore questions such as:
What is The Promise?
Why did Neville consider The Promise different from ordinary manifestation?
What did Neville mean by spiritual rebirth and being born from above?
What is the significance of the dove, the tomb, and the divine name?
What did Neville mean when he taught that God became man so that man may become God?
How do these experiences relate to Neville's interpretation of Scripture?
How does The Promise fit into Neville Goddard's larger body of teachings?
These are the questions THE PROMISE was written to explore.
To Help the Reader See the Bigger Picture
Neville Goddard's teachings can easily be reduced to techniques for getting the things we want. But Neville's message was ultimately much larger than that. The Promise points toward the fulfillment of a divine purpose, not merely the fulfillment of a personal desire. This book is my attempt to help the reader see that bigger picture and understand why The Promise occupies such an important place in Neville Goddard's teachings.
WHAT NEVILLE GODDARD TAUGHT ABOUT THE PROMISE?
Neville Goddard taught that The Promise is the fulfillment of God's purpose in man. He distinguished this spiritual Promise from the practical use of imagination and assumption for the fulfillment of personal desires.
In Neville's teaching, the Promise ultimately concerns the awakening of God within man and the realization of man's divine identity. He connected this fulfillment with a series of profound mystical experiences that he interpreted through the Bible and described from his own experience.
Neville described these experiences as four mighty acts of one great spiritual event: resurrection, birth from above, the discovery of the Fatherhood of God through David, and the final descent of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove.
Resurrection: Awakening in the Tomb
The Promise begins with what Neville described as resurrection. In his account, the tomb is not a physical grave but the individual's own skull. Neville described awakening within his skull, which he understood as the tomb in which God had been buried. The significance is profound: God awakens within man.
Neville therefore interpreted the biblical story of resurrection as a personal mystical experience rather than merely an event belonging to the historical past.
Birth From Above
Following resurrection comes what Neville called being born from above. Neville described this as a literal mystical experience in which he emerged from the tomb of his own skull, accompanied by the imagery he associated with the biblical account of the birth of Christ.
For Neville, this was not ordinary physical birth. It was spiritual rebirth - the birth of God within man. He repeatedly emphasized that this experience fulfills the biblical statement that one must be “born from above.”
The Discovery of the Fatherhood of God Through David
After the experience of being born from above, Neville described another profound revelation: the discovery of David as his own son, leading to the realization of his own Fatherhood of God.
Neville connected this experience with the biblical relationship between David and his Father, interpreting the Scripture as something fulfilled personally within the individual. In his own account, discovering David revealed to him the truth of his divine identity: I AM the Father of David. This experience is one of the central elements in Neville's understanding of The Promise.
The Descent of the Dove
The fourth and final act is the descent of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove. Neville described this as the culmination of the sequence. He experienced the dove as a profound spiritual event and associated it with the biblical account of the Spirit descending upon Christ. He described the experience as the sealing or completion of the Promise, accompanied by an overwhelming experience of divine love.
The Union of God and Man
Underlying all of these experiences is Neville's central understanding that God and man are ultimately not separate. Neville described God as having entered into humanity and the process of redemption as the awakening and realization of God within man. In his account of The Promise, the experiences are therefore not merely symbolic stories to be admired from a distance; they represent the fulfillment of Scripture within the individual.
This is why Neville's teaching on The Promise reaches far beyond ordinary manifestation. It points toward the ultimate realization of the divine nature within man, the fulfillment of what Neville expressed through the idea that God became man so that man may become God.
WHAT YOU WILL UNDERSTAND FROM THIS BOOK?
By reading THE PROMISE, you will develop a clear and comprehensive understanding of Neville Goddard's teachings on The Promise and how the different elements of his teaching fit together.
You will explore what Neville meant by The Promise, why he regarded it as fundamentally different from the fulfillment of ordinary personal desires, and how it relates to his wider teachings on consciousness, imagination, and the Law of Assumption.
The book explores Neville's understanding of God becoming man so that man may become God, the divine purpose of human existence, and the awakening of the divine within man.
You will also explore Neville's descriptions and interpretations of the major mystical experiences associated with The Promise, including resurrection, being born from above, the tomb, the discovery of the Fatherhood of God through David, and the descent of the Holy Spirit in the form of the dove.
The book examines Neville's interpretation of biblical Scripture, the symbolism and meaning behind these experiences, and the way he understood them as personal spiritual realities rather than merely historical or symbolic events.
You will also gain a clearer understanding of the distinction between The Promise and the practical application of the Law of Assumption, allowing you to see how these two dimensions of Neville's teachings relate to one another without confusing them.
Most importantly, THE PROMISE brings Neville Goddard's teachings on this subject together as a connected whole, helping you understand not only individual ideas, but the larger spiritual message that runs through his books, writings, and lectures.
By the end of the book, you should have a much clearer picture of what The Promise is, what Neville taught about it, why he considered it the ultimate fulfillment of God's purpose in man, and where The Promise fits within the larger body of Neville Goddard's teachings.
